Day Two, Part Two: Sawtooth Botanical Garden

Day Two, Part Two:  Sawtooth Botanical Garden

I had no idea what it was going to be like...

...but - WOW! - was it beautiful!

Because the Sun Valley area is a steppe climate, they planted a perennial Garden.

Perennials grow back every year and don't require as much care.
But they are just as beautiful!
We saw - and smelled - echinacea, lavender, sage, rosemary...

Gnomes love perennials!

And so do Dads!

The botanical garden includes a riparian section, too!

In the riparian woods, I ran into Carol.  She let me tag some trees for removal.
They had to remove some of the trees for light to get in for the plants to grow.

Shhh...  We are about to enter the Zen Garden.
The Garden of Infinite Compassion was dedicated by the Dalai Lama,
who actually visited the Wood River Valley!

The Zen Garden includes a waterfall, giant stone sentinels (up to 30 tons each!), and...

...a prayer wheel. < Click to learn all about them!

The Botanical Garden is a very relaxing place!

See you next time!

  1. Ok... a couple questions again :). First, are the perennial plants in the garden, native to the area or were they brought in? Second, why gnomes? What is their story? Have fun!!!

    1. Erik, Regarding the perennials, the answer is both. There are some native plants, but others that have been brought in. The have gnomes in the garden because trolls take up too much room. :)
