Day Three: The Road to Whitefish!

Wednesday, we left Sun Valley, Idaho for Whitefish, Montana, where we planned to visit Glacier National Park.  The road north was full of beauty and adventure!

We left before sunrise, because we had a long trip ahead of us.
We used Google to get the shortest route north, which took us toward Chilly.
What we didn't know was that the route would take us along the infamous Trail Creek! (click)

Did you watch the video? We did that in the pitch black of early morning!
Actually, maybe it's better that we couldn't see!
Imagine this, times fifty!  That's what we saw as we came out of Trail Creek.
It was too dark for pictures to turn out, but believe me, it was fantastic!
When we rounded the corner onto the highway, there was a huge bull elk right in front of us!

Luckily, when we ran into a herd of cattle crossing the road. the sun was just rising.
That could have been messy!

By the time we made our first potty stop, the sun was up
and the full beauty of the Salmon River was revealed!

We had about 90 miles of this as a view!

At our second potty stop  I found a nice souvenir!

Hold on...a bison range?
STOP!!!!

I was hyped to see some bison!!!

A 90-minute drive, with beautiful scenery, but...

...where are the Bison?!?!?

Deer...

...antelope...

...Bison!!!!
Well, we finally got to see a couple of bison up close.
But no big herds...

...until we left the reserve!
A half mile drive and right next to the highway was
a ranch loaded with Bison!

Next on my animal wish list...Grizzly Bears!
See you next time!
