Day Fifteen: Crabs, Kelp & Clams

From Chicago, we finally made it to Yarmouth, Cape Cod after surviving a trip through eight states, heavy Pennsylvania rains, and a stampede of New York taxis.
Now it was time for some relaxation on the beaches of Cape Cod.

Our first stop was at Chatham, a coast guard post that had a small light house...
The town is known for it's acres of preserved land.

...and a huge beach!

Always hungry, I managed to find plenty of fresh crab legs to snack on!
A little crunchy, but delicious!
Dad wasn't too sure abut my choices...

We walked for a bit and right away came across a seal floating pretty close to shore!

He was so close I could hear him snorting his breaths!
Sounded like my dog back home.
Maybe I should go out and have a swim with him?

On second thought...
Turns out that this spring the beaches were loaded with seals.
That meant more sharks in the area...Great Whites!

Turns out the Pilgrims landed around here.
I thought it was pretty cool to be walking where the first Pilgrims walked.
Of course, their footprints aren't there any more...

Our next stop was a beautiful walk through the woods of the Cape, just short of Province Town.
The Atlantic White Cedar Swamp is ranked as one of the top ten hikes in Cape Cod.
It's number two on this list!

It reminded me of the forbidden forest in Harry Potter.
We saw beech, white oak, black oak, sassafrass (yeah...it's a tree!)...
Plus, we saw cardinals and woodpeckers!

Turns out that they had a Canadian geese problem in the ponds,
so they were testing out using fake alligator heads to scare them off!

Made it to Province Town in about 45 minutes from Chatham.
Stopped at the Province Dunes overlook.
Cool place, if you have a bike.

Made it to the dunes.  Amazing beach!  It went on forever!

The tide was out, but the waves were still fun!

Built a sand castle with my Dad...

...and tried to fill the moat with water.
Darn you, Gravity!!!!

There were men fishing along the shoreline.
Didn't see them catch anything big, though.

Found a cool piece of kelp...

...and did my best Indiana Jones imprerssion!

CRACK!!!!

Just an incredible place to visit.

Went back to Jerry's Seafood for supper.
I got to meet Angelo, the cook.  He's Greek and has a cool accent!

Has my second bowl of clam chowder!

Can you guess whose is whose?

Tomorrow...Boston!

SEE YOU NEXT TIME!
